In Scotland fly fishing is popular. As a salt water amateur fisherman from the South of England I never learned that art.

I do use spinners for trout though. Typically I find fresh water fish smart, not easy to hook at all, and you need the lightest line and spinners (lures) to catch them. By comparison I find salt water fish easy to catch if they are about, but eels and flat fish like flounders are smart at getting off the hook. Areas where the fish have been depleted, and youngsters have been given a chance to move in are too easy to catch. I chuck those back, hope they will live, and move on.

Some of my USA rods are used for medium sized lures, but I usually use my UK made rods for fresh water fish with the smallest lures and the lightest line possible.
