Hi Stan. Remember I promised to get back to Isaiah in a later post...

The interpretation of Isaiah 53 as referring to the nation of Israel instead of Jesus comes from earlier verses in Isaiah that explicitly equate Israel with the suffering servant. See 41:8 and 44:21. The "we" references in chapter 53 are interpreted to be "the nations", which to a Jew means the gentile nations.
