Maybe its the semantics that are getting in the way. Subscription and Membership are 2 different things. When we paid for a lifetime membership it was different from a term or limited subscription to the website. We didn't pay to get our subscription renewed each year, we paid to be a lifetime full access member.

If SI had a donation drive to generate funds to improve the website, I would have been glad to donate my $20 to the cause. In light of this point, I went ahead and bought the upgrade. However, I still firmly believe it is wrong to charge paid, lifetime members any additional fees for site usage and enhancements.
