Trading symbol: TTZ: CDNX
EDMONTON, Nov. 3 /CNW/ - Total Telcom Inc. (TTZ: CDNX) announces it has been named as a member of a strategic alliance with the Bell Intrigna Consortium to facilitate their participation in the Government of Alberta's SUPERNET initiative to build a fiber optic grid connecting 420 municipalities with high-speed broadband communication services. The project will link any community in Alberta that has a school, hospital, library or provincial government office to other communities via high-speed telecommunication lines. Total Telcom will provide design, installation, and consulting services to the strategic alliance. They will be involved in the construction and build out of the fiber project as an active partner in the Bell Intrigna Consortium. As a registered Non Dominant Carrier, Total Telcom will own, sell, lease, and swap dark fiber on this network. Murray Korth, President and CEO for Bell Intrigna stated, "To deliver the Government of Alberta strategy, Bell, its operating units Bell Intrigna and Bell Nexxia, and Axia NetMedia brought together an unprecedented consortium of global players including, Nortel Networks, Cisco, Microsoft, Wi-Lan, Total Telcom, 360 Networks, and Netricom Communications Solutions. Bell adopted the open consortium approach to ensure optimal access to leading-edge technology services and expertise." Lorne Taylor, Alberta Government Minister of Innovation and Science said, "The Bell Intrigna Consortium matches up some of the world's "best-in-class" technology companies with four leading Alberta technology companies - Axia NetMedia, Total Telcom, Wi-Lan, and Netricom. Total Telcom CEO, Glen Boyd stated "This alliance brings the company to a new level of market recognition. The corridor that we have built from Edmonton to Ft. St. John, BC passes by more than 20 Rural Alberta Communities that should benefit directly from the SUPERNET initiative. This is a significant opportunity for our company, and we are very excited about moving forward with our business plan to be Western Canada's most significant provider of high speed broadband service to tier two communities." The Alberta Government will contribute $193 million to this $300 million initiative. The project is expected to take three years to complete. The Corporation designs, project manages, constructs, maintains, owns and operates Broadband Communication Systems. Total Telcom is a leader in turnkey Broadband Network Development and has extensive experience in Long Haul and Fiber Ring Optical Networks.
