Whether or not the course of events leads to the President leaving office, the impeachment process will be remembered by the electorate as a cynical manipulation of law by a pack of lawyers with partisan motivation. The finer points of alleged perjury and obstruction of justice will be quickly forgotten. The effect of this was foreshadowed in the November election. I really do find it astounding that the Republican party is bent on a course that will likely keep them out of office for years to come.

I was around for the proceedings against Nixon years ago, did not then and still do not believe that the impeachment process was in the interest of the country. However, if fibbing about extramarital affairs is the stuff that condemns Bill Clinton, we may want to dig up Nixon and put a stake through his heart for good measure and safety's sake <grin>.
