Urologix treatment eligible for reimbursement
MINNEAPOLIS, Sept 22 (Reuter) - Urologix Inc (ULGX) said Monday that British United Provident Association (BUPA), the largest private health insurer in the United Kingdom, will begin reimbursing health care providers that use thermotherapy.
Thermotherapy, such as Urologix's Targis system, is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate disease.
``This decision is particularly significant because it reverses BUPA's previous position and authorizes reimbursement for thermotherapy for BPH,'' Jack Meyer, president and chief executive officer of Urologix, said in a statement.
The Targis System is a non-surgical, anesthesia-free, catheter-based therapy that uses microwave technology to treat BPH. Urologix has approval to market the Targis System in the 18 European Union countries, Canada, Japan, and most recently, the United States. |
