Hi Marcos,
>>nor does he assuage the least bit of fear of a totalitarian bornagain regime<<
This is Canada. What's he going to do ? Bring in state religion. LOL. Make our kids pray in school ? We could certainly muster more that enough signatures to get a referendum to quash that idea. Oh ! But referenda are not good (according to JC).
>> this whole speech is a carefully crafted bit of fluff, there are no more specifics than you'd find in any other party.<< True. Is that any different than JC and the I'm a good Canadian story, or Joe C's 'Day Bashing' LOL.
>>'out of wedlock'<< Pretty meaningless term nowadays. Many people never get married. So what. He'll do nothing. Nothing needs doing.
>>To what precise degree do you advocate state control of wedlock andor reproduction?<< REALLY ROTFLMBO. The government's already meddling in reproductive technology. We've already had a 'commission' to limit out freedom. What about that.
>>To what precise degree do you propose returning women to being forced to stay with abusive spouses << A bit of a stretch ?
>>'The Valour and the Horror'<< War is bad. Sometimes there is no choice. Sometimes bad choices are made. I however, like the CBC. I also think Rush Limbaugh is amusing. I believe I'm smart enough to wade through the BS in both cases. SI thinks 'Valour' is misspelled.
>>I want to like this guy, i really do << I don't know him. Don't know any other candidates either. Who cares. Sounds to me like you're buying the Grit/Tory scare mongering line on Day. His persona is a bit too manufactured for my taste. A little too much like Jean Charest. I find that JC and Joe C both come across much better on a personal level. I'm still voting for the new 'fluff'. That's all I can do.
>>Keith Martin ... who btw goes to church, but who also as a doctor took a stand in favour of a form of two-tier healthcare, of which i am suspicious, << Two points here: A lot of nice sane, rational people go to church. :0) (See my comment re: Limbaugh and the CBC above). If JC needed an MRI right away or surgery that was available immediately in the US but months away in Canada what would he do ? Shuffle off to Buffalo or join the queue ? I'd bet on Buffalo IMHO, but of course this is only conjecture. The whole concept of two-tier health care is moot. I challenge anyone who has the need and means, to not seek out the best possible options for heath care. I know a few may be up to the challenge, but I doubt ther would be many. As a point of reference though, I'm in favour of universal health care and our social programs. It is the efficient management of these institutions that is lacking.
>>he did stand against state control of the reproductive powers of women, for which i applaud both his judgment and his courage.<< Maybe it was just political expediency. Not that I'm cynical of course. This is only positive because it concurs with your beliefs. Had you been a pro-lifer you might be saying he had compromised his personal beliefs for political gain.
>>the more they try to sweep aside legitimate questions with non-answers, the more they look just like the rest.<< We don't hang JC on his personal beliefs since we don't really know anything about them other than that he is a 'Proud Canadian'. In his case ca veut dire 'no comment'. I think Gulo is correct in that you are reading too much into this religion/abortion stuff. To vote Liberal over that would be a sad, sad affair.
>>Day is not the only one who "was brought up in a deeply religious family", there are many of us, i was myself, just had the opposite reaction,<< That's what makes a market !
regards Kastel
PS: I'm not trying to be confrontational I just believe we need to shake up the status quo. Our 'one party' system is not healthy. :0) |
