Yes, we won the first phase of the war in several weeks, if I remember correctly. However, we certainly have NOT won the second phase, which is crushing the insurgency. As I stated in my previous post, we have been completely ineffective in prosecuting the peace and I blame Rumsfeld for that. That is where the overwhelming force bit comes in. Overwhelming force has more than just an overt exercise of power aspect to it. It also has a psychological facet, which states clearly "we're here to break the resistance and you don't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning." Instead, by sending the paltry forces in that we did, we announced, "we're here to make a great show of things, but we're going to do it as much as possible on the cheap."

If we'd have had enough boots on the ground, the insurgency would have never gained the traction that it did. We're now 4 years into this thing and it doesn't look like we're any closer to finishing it.
