You are so right to decide the rules now and start talking about them so that there is no argument when it happens. We wouldn't let the boys drive alone for six months after they got their license at 16--- (Ammo is still in this phase) and then after 6 months only with one person. It's hard on them when their friends are given the keys to a brand new Camaro and turned loose. But they make it as long as you don't weaken. It amazes me what parents allow their children to do. Sometimes you feel as if you're fighting alone, but you're really not; we discovered most of the boys' friends' parents felt the same way and we grouped together on things. We just try to be reasonable and clear.
I have a feeling you will be really good at this stage of parenting. Dan's ability to step back and look at facts was very helpful!
