He recalls with satisfaction Bush's rejoinder to Chris Matthews when it was suggested that he claimed an abiding interest in the life of Winston Churchill simply to impress Churchill fan Matthews:

"Do you think that I’d take time out of my life to research what the hell you like?" he asked.
