>They have about 50 names for snow, describing the condition

an urban legend that refuses to die. on any of the urban legends debunked pages you can find the history of this "fact." basically the quote came from a reporter who had a brief contact with some natives and was a bit too enthusiastic in his story. upon further linguistic research it was proven that the "50 words" or "100 words" or "200 words" (depending on who was retelling the legend) turned out to be the equivalent of "snow ball" or "snowflake" or "avalanche" or "ice" or "powder" etc, etc, hardly outside the realm of your average american vocabulary, and certainly not outside the vocabulary of anyone who had ever skied.

have you heard the one about the guy that went around to 10 different tanning salons in one day? :-) no really, it happened to a friend of a friend's brother, i swear!
