Since this has degraded to personal shots it is time to end it.

I'll pit my experience in very large databases and decision support systems against yours any day of the week sadsack.

As for ODBC access to ANYTHING of substantial size, what a total crock of shit. The DML available via ODBC hardly allows for the kind of advanced functionality required to provide high performance against datasets of any size or complexity. Let's see the parallel query DML via ODBC for example. All the required DML is vendor specific, not ANSI compliant thus it ALL has to be done on the database side for anything other than small to medium size apps and simple queries. This is the crux of my arguments against MSTR anyway. Saylor's smoke and mirrors and grandiose claims are NOT deliverable via HIS products. By the time you create a data store capable of satisfying generated SQL from any source you might as well put the Java right in the database and deliver the presentation interface using the same vendor's software.

Did YOU write MSTR's SQL generation 'engine'? Might explain why you are SO touchy about it. I have dissassembled several dozen similar products via their DDL and have been doing so since the late 80's when the first generation of these wonderful products came about. They AREN'T that tough, because they really don't DO all that much. And a DBA ends up tuning them anyway. You ARE a DBA aren't you sadsack? If not, then it explains why you might still believe this stuff works.

Good luck.
