On the other hand, E! there are funds like MVALX .... Worst year ever was: Up 18.94%. In 2000: Up 37.14%. No down years.

I haven't checked lately, but Vanguard used to have some value funds with similar records.
Perhaps the lesson to be learned is not that funds are necessarily bad -- but perhaps owning funds which are too aggressive could be a bit unhealthy?
Methinks something close to the Wolf approach might be best for long term investment comfort... just mho..
