Dell Broadens New Inspiron Notebook PC Line; Two New Models Offer Powerful Performance Starting At Less Than $3,000
ROUND ROCK, Texas, Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Dell Computer Corporation (Nasdaq:DELL) the world's leading direct computer systems company, today expanded the Dell(R) Inspiron(TM) 3000 notebook PC line with new models featuring Intel's 166 and 200 megahertz (MHz) Pentium(R) processors with MMX(TM) technology, 12.1`` active-matrix displays and 20X CD-ROM drives starting at $2,999.
The Dell Inspiron 3000 notebook PC line, launched earlier this month, is a new brand of powerful notebook computers targeted at customers looking for the most bang for the buck.
The Dell Inspiron 3000 M166ST is priced at $2,999 in the U.S. and Canada for a system configured with a 166 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 16 megabytes (MB) of synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM), a 2.1 gigabyte (GB) hard drive, 256 Kilobytes (KB) of Level 2 Cache, a 20X(A) CD-ROM drive, a 12.1-inch SVGA active-matrix display, Microsoft(R) Office 97 Small Business Edition and a one-year warranty. The Dell Inspiron 3000 M200ST is priced at $3,399 in the U.S. and Canada for a similarly configured system with a 200 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, 32MB of SDRAM and 512KB Cache. Dell began taking orders for the new notebook PCs today.

BLAZING SYSTEM AND VIDEO PERFORMANCE
By combining Intel's latest 166MHz and 200MHz Pentium processors with MMX technology with PCI bus architecture and NeoMagic's latest 128-bit video accelerator, the new Inspiron 3000 notebook systems offer the powerful performance customers require to run graphics-intensive multimedia programs. Two PCMCIA slots supporting CardBus and zoom video enable speedy access to corporate networks and the Internet.

Flexible, Lightweight Design: An options bay allows users to configure the Dell Inspiron 3000 notebook computers to meet their specific needs. Customers can swap a 20X(A) CD-ROM drive, a floppy disk drive or a second lithium-ion battery in the same bay. All of these features are available in a 6.1-pound package with the floppy drive installed or 6.4-pounds with the CD-ROM drive. Superior Battery Life: Dell's long-life smart lithium-ion battery and advanced power management deliver industry-leading battery performance. In independent tests, the Dell Inspiron 3000 M200ST delivered an average of 3 hours and 49 minutes of coast-to-coast Pentium-based processor productivity from a single battery charge without the CD-ROM in use.(B) To double the system's battery life, customers can purchase a second lithium-ion battery for $169. In November, Dell expects to offer a pass-through port replicator that allows customers in remote office environments to connect their Inspiron 3000 notebook PC to a full-size monitor, mouse and keyboard. In addition to today's two new models, Dell also offers the Inspiron 3000 M233XT, priced at $3,999 in the U.S. and Canada, for a system with a 233 MHz Pentium processor with MMX technology, a 13.3-inch XGA active matrix display, 32 MB of SDRAM, a 2.1 GB hard drive, a 20X CD-ROM drive, Microsoft Office 97 Small Business Edition and a one-year warranty.
