I ran into a guy who was a youth group leader, with me, about 14 years ago. This guy, who is my age, went to Princeton, was on the football team, and played opposite one of the other youth group leaders, at Harvard. He became great friends with the guy from Harvard, and his wife, a CPA. They now live out-of-state. As a matter of fact, the last time I got a Christmas card from them, they were going to move to the Silicon Valley.
The first guy, was not a Christian, before the accident, and was very successful, and training for the olympics. He was even in ads for running shoes, and sports equipment.
Suddenly, he was in a car accident, and was very injured. He was so admired by his peers before and now struggles. Really, I am not even sure that he placed me with the youth group at all. I am not sure that he remembers people, when he randomly runs into them. His long-term memory was damaged, but he has such a close network of lifelong people, have reached out to him.
He will never be the same, but through the process, he became a Christian. It is a lesson for me to be thankful, for faith, for good health and a reiteration that God is there. |
