According to the ZD link you gave their problem may be a combination of poor inventory control (company specific) and lower personal consumer demand ( an industry problem if true) Dell makes most of its sales to business, but they are starting after individuals and may be eating part of Gateway's lunch. There are still a lot of 486's out there in the corporate world that must be replaced, but if you are an individual with a P100 or a P133 you might have less urgency to buy a new machine. Time will tell whether or not there is a temporary lull in home PC sales, but with 35% or more of homes already having a PC, computer companies will have to depend more and more on persuading present owners to buy a new one. Unless a new killer ap comes along this is not going to be easy.
