Bill,
I am heading out for the day but i have some thoughts on the election. Contrary of cw, i think bush has turned the corner with his ads. As many folks were po'd at the folks who were po'd at bush for using a brief 9/11 image. But my reason for thinking bush has turned the corner is kerry. I have been an accurate predictor of elections since i was a kid. I allow myself voluntarily to be positively influenced by all candidates either by what they say or how they project themselves. So initially i said kerry looked the part and that once away from kennedy and taxechusets he would gravitate toward the center. But i was wrong about that. Perhaps it is fear of nader but i now think the guy is a leftist socialist period. Maybe its the Heinz influence. Kerry may flip flop but he clearly falls on the socialist side of the ledger. For example below is a summary of some of the things he said this week.
1. Said he would have intervened earlier in haiti to support the dem elected aristede regime. Americans know viscerally that aristede was a fraud.
2. Just as americans are receiving refunds, he says one again that he will repeal the tax cuts and SPEND the money(all of it) on education and health care--and with his ideology this is a rat hole for sure.
3. He attacks free trade, india and china. Now thats productive.
4. He was quoted as saying in the NYT this morning that he americans know that he is a "tough guy" and not scared of a fight. Now that scares the hell out of me. The man is just not comfortable in his own skin..
5. He is telling jewish groups that he is for the fence, would send clinton, dennis ross et al to the mideast as opposed to jim baker and jimmy carter who he was sending earlier and so on. He also is telling them that his brother is jewish and this grandfather was jewish. Pander, pander, pander.

I am sure you guys can add a few more points but its this type of stuff that will do him in. On the contrary bush looked like a president in those ads whether you like him or not. And kerry is a bumbler. Its the independents in the center that will decide this election and a week ago it seemed kerry would get them. Not any more. Watch for the bush ads about flip/flop. Have a great day. Mike
