SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1998--

Exclusive Offer from World's First Online DVD Rental Store and

Leading Manufacturer of DVD Hardware Increases Market Momentum

for DVD Rentals

NetFlix Inc. (www.netflix.com), the world's first Internet store to specialize in DVD rentals, and consumer electronics leader Toshiba Tuesday announced that the NetFlix Internet store will offer purchasers of Toshiba DVD players an opportunity to "Rent Three DVDs Free."

This exclusive promotion offers purchasers of Toshiba DVD players the opportunity to rent three DVD movies of their choice for free from NetFlix's inventory of more than 1,100 DVD films. Current owners of Toshiba DVD players are also able to participate in this promotion.

This announcement comes in conjunction with Toshiba's outlining its long-term DTV strategy and unveiling its DVD-Video and Color TV line earlier Tuesday.

"NetFlix is delighted to partner with Toshiba and further increase momentum for DVD rentals," said NetFlix president and CEO Marc B. Randolph. "Now every purchaser of a Toshiba DVD player can take advantage of the world's largest collection of DVDs, all of which are available for rent or for sale at NetFlix.com."

The promotion marks the second time NetFlix has partnered with a leader in the DVD industry since its Internet debut on April 14, 1998. The online company is also supporting Warner Home Video's DVD release of the Academy Award-winning film "L.A. Confidential" with an Internet-based sweepstakes.

"More than three million DVD titles have been sold to date, clearly demonstrating both Hollywood's strong support and the fact that consumers are fast becoming avid collectors of DVD movies," said Steve Nickerson, vice president of marketing at Toshiba. "I expect that NetFlix's offering a wide selection of DVD movies for rent on a national basis will fill a critical need for DVD enthusiasts and contribute to the market's future growth."

With the world's largest selection of DVD movies, NetFlix rents and sells DVD movies to owners of DVD video players and DVD-ROM equipped PCs at its Internet store, www.netflix.com. The NetFlix.com site offers virtually every DVD movie, for rent or for sale. By focusing on online rentals, NetFlix is pioneering a new online retail model and e-commerce category. Founded in 1997, NetFlix has headquarters in Scotts Valley.
