I was wrong to label you so unthinkingly and have bowed to the greater wisdom of the thread and recanted. On the subject of illiteracy. I know a fella my age who did not learn to read. But he won't stay in a literacy class. It's seems he is afraid to learn because he then has to be responsible for things in a way he has had a ready made excuse to avoid before. That's just my observation. But I have known him over a period of about 5 years. I gave him a book once to give him something to read at home for practice, a Louis Lamour western. He gave it back saying he didn't like the cussing. But Lamour doesn't cuss in his books, he will hardly say dam. That has always puzzled me. This fella is very religious too, although he's a falling down drunk sometimes.
