Just to follow up a little more on your questions, please review the following:

The CRC chemistry handbook lists all known compounds for all of the elements. Just a few

Gold 16
Platinum 55
Silver 81
Copper 121
Lead 125

In order for a compound to be listed in this book it must be certified by boards of chemists. This has nothing to do with mining, only chemistry. Most of the gold and platinum compounds are variations of halide compunds. ie chlorine, iodine etc. All of the compounds for gold and platinum are relatively unstable and will report in a fire assay.

If you are to believe the desert dirts story you have to believe that there are millions of tons of ore in Arizona containing compounds of gold and platinum which have never been discovered or recognized by chemists before. It would be nice - - but logical?
