***off topic*** "...our long-term interest lies in allowing a consumer society to flourish". That was from one of the articles posted a few ago in regard to China. Do you think it is in the USA long term interest to allow a consumer society to flourish in China as suggested? It does beg a couple of questions - is there a precise definition of "our", which means "USA" I suppose, though maybe it was the more narrow Republican interest. Or maybe Congressional. Or maybe just the person speaking. Or are you all just clones with identical long-term interest interests?

Anyway, the other question begged = just how do you disallow a 1000lb gorilla from being a consumer society if he wants to? "Okay, hey, let's not allow China to have a flourishing consumer society". What are you going to do about it? There is nothing you can do to stop 1,200,000,000 people doing pretty much what they decide to do. Well, you could try the stone age technique if you have the stomach for it.

It's called ethnic cleansing. Or genocide. Which might lead to some Nuremberg trials if you don't do a good job of it. Ethnic cleansing has a long history of use, even here in NZ where it was an art form [literally, as Maoris used to shrink and preserve enemy heads - if nicely tatooed. Later they sold them, to order I believe, tatooing appropriate slaves beforehand, to curious Europeans. No doubt you have some in New York!]

After you do China, you might have to do Japan, India and maybe a few other places which will be feeling quite nervous by then. In fact, I think the other 5,000,000,000 of us better have a chat with 280,000,000 as to who is going to level whom if there is some "allowing" to be done.

Oh, incidentally, the USA has now taken unkindly to some new NZ legislation about allowing any products to be imported by anyone. Apparently the jargon is parallel importing. As long as products don't breach copyright, IPR rules, and are not illegal, such as heroin or livestock such as fruit flies, then in they come. The USA is now adopting strategies to bully us back into restrictive trade practices which the USA uses - despite protestations about free trade.
They are going to disallow us!!! Eeekkk, man the guns and bomb shelters - The British are coming, ...no, wrong independence war, the Americans are coming...disallowing away like crazy.

By the way, you see the difference? $ill gave nothing but a criticism about Bill not drilling down - probably laughed at his golf swing too. $ernie gave $1m! Which one is Janet after? And anyway, what's the longhorn beef with the Chinese giving financial support to Clinton? I heard that Air Vice Marshal Ky got some financial support, not to mention some disallowing support too! I'd have thought the Republicans would send China a congressional medal of honor for adopting the appropriate political funding habits of the USA - no more wars, just political contributions.

Okay, over an out.
Maurice

PS: and nobody moan about this being a political post or I'll whistle up a certain guy who has a trigger finger he just loves to use. Shorter these days than a cuppla years ago, but plenty fine for varmints. AND he lives in TEXAS!!! Where they don't take kindly to much and carry a gun everywhere. AND he has a plane so can track you down in hours!!!! I bet he's still grateful for a broken drought! Don't want no more of those infernal things.
