Hi Rick,

My firm managed to draw a 13 count federal court lawsuit filed against it including a RICO count by a deluded lawyer. It took me about a month to put together enough of an offense to blow him away. So I have been distracted. :-) Too bad he folded just about the time it was going to get interesting.

GM selling GMAC is interesting. It is an indication of the desperation facing the US car makers. For my money, look for Citi to buy it. GECC will want it but seems less aggressive on these big finance deals. (While GM and the others are trying desperately to show a profit, TM is doing all it can to mask just how profitable it has become.)

We have seen a large increase in bankruptcy filings prior to the revised bankruptcy law going into effect. My bankruptcy attorneys have been doing lunch with the local bankruptcy judges and bar (no rick - not that kind of bar) every week as they try jointly to figure out just how all the seemingly contradictory sections will be given effect. These changes will keep a lot of attorneys off the dole.

New claims from the creditors are ramping - nothing like 2000 but significant. We are also seeing increasing default rates by stressed consumers and that is without the coming bump up in heating costs this winter.

What are the chances of H5N1 reassociating into an easily transmissible human-to-human virus? How long will it take? Will FluMist confer any immunity however small?

Should H5N1 reek havoc, what will the markets do? What industries will decline the most? (Those with high debt? Those that sell capital assets purchase of which can be deferred?)
