John,
My feeling was that the abortion issue, the gay marriage issue should be off the table to some degree in presidential elections. Then you can have a pres who believes one way and a veep who feels the opposite. Rudy represents the pataki-schwartenegger wing of the republican party along with many other republican governors in dem states who have proved they can win. With Giuliani perhaps bush wins some red states, even a big one. With cheney the dems may steal florida, missouri and ohio. If you want bush to win, do we really care about the veep? Both parties need to be more geared to the center. We have the dems playing with move.org and trying to offset nader and the reps playing to the cultural conservatives. Successful parties gear themselves to the center in elections. Reagan did this with bush and kennedy with johnson. Hasnt happened in a long time. mike
