I need a place to vent steam, and I guess this is the appropriate place. I am appalled at the behavior of a Wall Street analyst by the name of Alan Braverman. I've spent the last month picking apart the 10-Ks and 10-Qs of Amazon.com. This weekend I completed a series of regression analyses on this company's operations. I concluded that this operation is a house of cards.

Last Friday on CNBC Joe Kernen and David Faber talked about Alan Braverman's buy ratings on around 7 internet stocks. I received a copy of Braverman's analysis AOL, and I am still in a state of disbelief because he issued a buy rating in the strongest terms. Either this man doesn't know how to do statistical analysis or there is a considerable amount of non-public information that went into his analytical framework. Given the SEC's negative view towards the use of non-public information, I tend to doubt that such was the case. In any case, Braverman was not forthcoming about his analytical framework.

This morning I heard this man tell a national TV audience that sell side analysts are immune from the loss of clients on the banking side should the analysts significantly downgrade a stock or issue a (God forbid!) sell. This man is being paid $16MM over a four year period! I suppose being an analyst is now just the same as being a salesman.

I am still sitting in my office screaming at the TV, and the guy has been off screen for hours.

Maybe I'll just take a walk.

CTC
