Many thanks for the kind welcome to your sandbox. Will bring my new pail and shovel.
Berney, perhaps we should buy stock in SI. Afterall, any company that can sell "lifetime" memberships to even 18 year olds....
Jury, I enjoyed your new list of acronyms, although, with Viagra, PFE never promised you true love.... That comes in their next generation of drugs(code named potion #9) I believe.<g>
FWIW the following (according to the nwewspaper I clipped it from) is a recent demographic market survey by Ford Motor Co.
Depression Kids (born 1920-34) Although always ready for a rainy day, they like the good life. The most active, healthy seniors ever.
Quiet Generation (1935-45) A group that longs for the idyllic years of their youth in post-war harmony. They 're very nostalgic.
Baby Boomers (1946-64) The first TV generation, indulged by parents, wanting instant gratification. They're very image conscious.
Lost Generation (1965-69) Feeling disenfranchised in boomer's shadow. Not as affluent and waiting for life to get better. Prone to suicide at the first hint of bad news and often abducted by aliens. They have offbeat and niche-driven tastes.
Birth Dirth (1970-77) Grew up in rich 1980s and developed taste for excellence but can't afford it. Have become practical and future-oriented.
Baby Boomlet (1978-present) Still forming. Will be a powerful market segment because they are almost as numerous as the boomers.
OK OK The " suicide and aliens" comment was my embellishment. Having a little fun at a survey that purports to describe personalities of groups numbering in the millions. Anyway, IMHO from a stock picking point of view, the two most important groups are obviously the boomers (approx. 75 million) and the Baby Boomlet ("almost as numerous" ....70 million?) Note that the leading edge of the Boomlet tidal wave is now 20 years old and swelling the college dorms to capacity. They will/are taking PCs with them n'est-ce-pas? (INTC, DELL etc.) Also, when they begin to graduate in a few years they will be needing transportation to their new jobs. (GM, F,C).
RE: Trades 1) In May, the rather flimsy and unscientific logic above led me to buy LFOAL Y2K 60c @ 3 7/8. I intend to hold on until well into 1999. 2) All is not well in trading land however, I learned a painful lesson by not having a stop loss order in place prior to ELY 's most recent earnings announcement.
A question for you all. Do you keep stop orders in place on all positions or only as events such as earnings approach? I believe I once read that one of the dudes tries to be in cash at end of day. Is this common even among daytraders??
Thanks and happy trading,
