It depends on how you get to that goal of "energy-independence."
Invest in research for higher-efficiency engines, power plants, etc.? Invest in energy-saving technologies such as CF bulbs? Yes, that will definitely give the economy a nice kick.
Invest in research into alternative energy sources that are cheaper, more potent, and more convenient than oil? Once again, yes.
Tax the crap out of gas and/or oil in order to curtail greenhouse gases? No.
Force people to drive less and take more mass transit? Yes and no, but mostly no.
Pass more and more environmental regulations? Maybe, if they succeed in increasing land values, but no otherwise.
And of course, getting to energy independence means the last three items on your list, not the first two. Therefore, its very important to throw the baby out with the wash even though you are against abortion. |
