Right on.

I'm running a cablemodem here that can do
10 Mbps ... on a 30Mbps segment. That cleans
up bigtime on ADSL, and my cable vendor will
be offering the service cheaper than GTE's DSL.
Besides, I can run a drop to every system in
my home office ... rather than route.

Don't underrate cable ... there's big forces
at work here ... much bigger than Internet access
as we currently know it.

Microsoft wants to be your phone company, and
your appliance company, and your grocer as well.
(slight hyperbole). They want it all.

That picture falls out more directly via cable
than anything having to do with the RBOC's ...

Microsoft (e.g.) wants to control the wire into
your house ... and every point of presence outward.

In the dance of survival and growth, Microsoft and
the phone company are natural enemies, given their
current behavioral strategies.

Cable and DSL will both enjoy lots of nice growth ...
what the situation is in 5-10 years, tho, is a
profoundly interesting question.
