The national need for a sane democrat:

Those who know me know my politics are right of center. None-the-less, if we cannot get a great communicator Republican, I am convinced the country needs a sane democrat as president.

Why - well, as Nixon went to China only a democrat can go to the left and generate the compromises our country needs. Essentially a sane Democrat would silence co-opt enough of the left to leave the loonies out in the cold. At the same time enough centrist Republicans would imo sign up for compromise solutions that, while not optimal, could work to address our problems.

Some examples of compromises are energy - conservation and production, social security - means testing, health care - universal access to insurance.

What we have now is viril looney left that has become the party of no. Since the looney left is a substantial portion of the active political environment - effective compromise is not possible.

Unfortunately, I am at a loss for the names of sane Democrats - perhaps Joe Lieberman? Much like Iraq - the sane ones dare not show their heads due to the power of the looney left. Lieberman is an example of the difficulty of the issue. Perhaps a smashing victory of Joe would be a start.
