Computer Networking Brief:A mixed bag for the networkers... 3Com tumbled over 2 points amid renewed concerns that sales will slow and inventories will mount... On the other side of the ledger, Shiva (+1 9/16), FORE (+7/8), Newbridge (+1 1/4) and Ascend (+1 3/4) posted strong gains... The latter continued to climb amid rumors that either Nortel or Lucent are ready to pounce... These are old rumors, however... Shiva's gain catapulted stock through pivotal resistance... Set for near- to intermediate-term test of the 15 area... FORE Systems jumped on news that Merrill upped its n/t rating to accumulate from neutral and that Van Kasper & Co. started coverage with a l/t buy. Regards Pheonix
