SNIFF - off topic to James Mortenson. Yes, I was suckered into SNIFF at $16 but soon therafter Dean Whitter did a secondary offering and then a week later dropped a bomb and recommended selling SNIFF!!! Stock got knocked back to $9, I bought some more, then folded my tent and got OUT at $7.50. Boy am I glad I did. Why should this junk stock be more likely to go up at $1 than at $16? I should have trusted my instincts and focussed on the reasons why Amer. Sensors didn't make sense as an investment: - 1) nobody wants to buy CO detectors because they are expensive and few people think about the risks of CO poisoning; 2) First Alert is already in the business and has great name and brand recognition; 3) you need disaster stories about people dying tragically, etc. to mobilize the public to buy them, and 4) once installed they last almost forever. SNIFF is selling at an incredible discount to what? Their book value? Seems to me they had to restate earnings in the past and made some foolish predictions about their eps growth that not only didn't pan out, but the opposite turned out to be true. Still, convince me otherwise and I might be a buyer at $1.00.
