It is good to see that Daimler-Chrysler is making an effort to get an electric vehicle into production. I hope it fares better than the GM passenger car of two years ago, leased only in 2 or 3 western states and virtually off the radar screen today.

But more germane to the Ballard discussion, even though this is now a battery pack project and not a fuel cell project, it still demonstrates that D-C is serious about alternative fuel sources, and willing to approach governmental clean air mandates from multiple directions.

Clearly one one or two of the restrictive constraints on the battery cars has been power to weight ratios of the batteries themselves and the excessive time to recharge versus their driving range. The Yahoo item indicated some progress in shortening the recharge time.
