When your talking about who is to the right or the left, it has to be compared to something. Right or left of what. In this case Kerry is to the left of general American opinion.


That may well be true. I have said previously that the US is a fairly conservative nation.

That statement can be (and is) true, and trying to establish the middle of American opinion as either right or not right is irrelevant to the issue. If Kerr's positions where somehow the exact perfect opinions that in every way would bring the most justice and practical benefit to the country <gag>, they still would be to the left of general American opinion, so Kerry would not be "right of center".

Tim, there are people who specialize in political science and issues that relate to it. One of the things they look at is what is the political spectrum and where do leaders fall on that spectrum. Every political spectrum I've seen places Kerry right of center. Now he may be left of the American center but the American center is solidly on the right.
