August chip sales $11.6 bln -- industry group

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct 3 (Reuter) - Global sales of semiconductor chips in August reached $11.6
billion, up 15.3 percent from the same month a year ago, the Semiconductor Industry Association
said Friday in its monthly report.

Sales in the Americas topped $3.86 billion in August, a 21.3 percent increase over the year-earlier
$3.18 billion.

In the Asia-Pacific region, sales rose 18.5 percent to $2.6 billion, and in Europe sales rose 15.8
percent to $2.3 billion.

``Despite some seasonal sluggishness in the European and Japanese markets, all indicators suggest
the global industry is growing as we start the fourth quarter,''
George Scalise, president of the trade
association, said in a statement.

The following is a table of monthly chip sales issued by the Semiconductor Industry Association.
