Harry,

I agree with you on the long-term effect of the Worth article. However, creating an image like Coke, takes many such articles and stability in one's market place. The last time anyone made any inroads on Coke was back in the mid-80s when Pepsi gained a few market share points. Coke is in a virtual duopoly with Pepsi with basically fixed market shares. Intel will probably never have that luxury long-term. Even if AMD goes bankrupt tomorrow (always a possibility!), someone else will pop up with a competing product which promises to knock significant market share off of INTC. The terminal/network computer will never go away and neither will cheap knock-offs like CYRX. Also, technological changes such as the Internet will cause shifts in the marketplace.

If INTC can push AMD aside next year, we will see a repeat of 1996, but don't expect the glory period to last for more than a year.

Regards,
Richard
