They're leaving. And when enough leave someone will figure out you have to pay them better to stay. Professional service workers in those areas ought to get a clue and pursue collective bargaining...with a vengence. That's what I'd do.

I do recall someone posted a link to an article re: a story about some company building subsidized housing for middle class service workers to keep them in the community. One way to avoid class conflict...may even work.
