I have experienced this creating a mess a number of times.

The installer checks for the most currently dated dll, installs
the newer one, but then the newer one doesn't work with
apps that want the older one.

the more companies mucking with these things the more headaches for all.

Ok, so rather than overwrite existing dll's, use a new name,
right? so now you get different implementations of the same
thing on your machine..., but what if you want them to work
together? and of course app developers are only responsible
for their app working.

I'm not saying it can't work, but that the net for consumers
is harm, not benefit.
