Instructions on updating Sun Java plug-in
[got this from Interactive Brokers and tried it out]. Gottfried

Uninstall/Reinstall the Java Plug-in

If you're having problems logging into TWS 4.0 [this is an IB utility] , try the following.

Uninstall your old plug-in

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL

Select: Add/Remove Programs.

Highlight the Java 2 Runtime Environment.

Under the list of programs, click Add/Remove.

Follow the instructions to remove the the plug-in and reboot your computer.
Delete .jar Files (If you have any)

Close all Browsers.

Go to START > FIND > FILES OR FOLDERS.

In the Named field type: java_plugin_AppletStore and click Find Now.

Double-click to open the java applet folder, then open the version folder and the jar folder.

Delete any .jar files inside with names something like: jts.jar 1297282312.3.4.30384098.4.jar

Reboot your computer.
Download the latest plug-in

Close all applications except the browser you are currently using.

Go to the java.sun.com website: java.sun.com

On the right side of the page, click "Download J2SE v1.4 Now!"

In the JRE column, click the appropriate download link.

Read the license terms and conditions and click "Accept."

Click the download link.

In the "Save As" window, save the file to your desktop.
Install New Java Plug-in

Double-click on the Java Plug-in desktop item.

Follow the instructions.
Activate your certificate

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL

Double-click the Java Plug-in icon, click the Basic tab and ensure that Enable Java Plug-in is checked.

Reboot your computer. (Turn it off and back on again)

Open your browser, go the IB website and log in to the Trader Workstation. (Expect a delay from 1-5 minutes with a 56K modem connection before the TWS will appear on your screen)

Go to START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL.

Double-click on the Java Plug-in icon, click the Certificates tab, and ensure that Interactive Brokers LLC is there.

Open your browser, go the IB website and log in to the Trader Workstation. You should now be able to trade.
Note: If using Netscape, you must upgrade your browser to version 6.0.

An additional suggestion would be to increase the amount of System Memory to a minimum of 128K. You may also want to upgrade to a minimum PIII 400Mhz processor.
