Minerva Publisher to encode MPEG-2
By Kelly Ryer (kelly_ryer@macweek.com)

MPEG decoders are proliferating, but MPEG encoders are still fairly rare. Bucking that trend, Minerva Systems this month will add MPEG-2 encoding capability to Minerva Publisher, the company's digital video publishing system.

The MPEG-2 version of Minerva Publisher will cost $29,995 and reside on a Power Mac 7600 or 8500, which is not included. Its hardware-and-software combo encodes MPEG-2 video at CCIR 601 resolution that has been optimized for use with Digital Video Disc (DVD) technology. The company said it will provide other DVD-related options for the system later this year.
