Actually, if you do the hard-drive -- hard-drive method, it'll be a heck of a lot faster. You could make a direct cable connection between the two systems, and get some software (such as lap-link) to transfer over all the files.

However, if you're feeling limber, you could simply hook up your 'new' hard drive to the older system and do a straight copy from there.

If that's the route you do, and you do feel comfortable playing with the parts inside your box, I'll explain the procedure, if not, take it into a local tech shop. They should be able to do it in less than 2 hours (including data transfer).
