My read is that Zenith and LGE are sitting in the cat bird seat since no other manufacturer of cable modems/set-top boxes has the necessary encoder/decoder chips to make it all (HDTV, SDTV, VOD, Internet) work. Even Motorola won't have a HDTV chip set until, at least, the fourth quarter 1998.

According to one Korean source, LGE and Zenith may be introducing an all-in-one, set-top-box as early as March which will accommodate both digital and analog transmissions from any supplier (cable systems, satellite systems, broadcasters and MMDS systems) with a common hardware platform and with slots for the appropiate add-on cards.
