BioZ monitorization is reimbursed by health insurance companies and Medicare, Perry said.

CardioDynamics has also filed for Food and Drug Administration approval of a system that would enable doctors or hospitals to monitor congestive heart failure by getting data from BioZ machines via the Internet.

"We see it having applications in home health care," Perry said. "It hopefully would reduce the frequency of hospitalization."

On Thursday, General Electric Co.'s (GE) GE Medical Systems Information Technologies unit and Qwest Communications International Inc. (Q) announced a deal to digitally provide and store medical data for hospitals.

While it doesn't directly relate to CardioDynamics' remote monitoring system, the deal shows that remote monitoring of patients is gaining currency.

Previously, CardioDynamics joined with GE Medical to develop a plug-in module version of its BioZ system that's used in concert with GE's Solar 8000 patient monitor usually used in emergency room settings.

The companies received FDA marketing clearance for the technology in early June.
