What generalization? I didn't say all plumbers could afford a Mercedes. Some are self employed but don't work full time, or aren't very successful. Many are employees, who don't make nearly as much as the typical self-employed plumber.

The point I made was not that all plumbers are rich, but that plumbers in general do pretty ok, and a number of them do very well for themselves.
