Roy,I listened to the Sprint teleconference today. Here's the scoop-Lucent has 60% of the Sprint cities, and Nortel has 40%. When asked what the status of the Nortel system was, the reply was that the software problem was not in the CDMA, but instead, in the testing software. The new software has now been delivered by Nortel and is being tested. Expectations are that the Nortel systems will go on line early in the 1st quarter of l977. As for the handsets, Sprint will use the Sony version of the Qualcomm/ Sony joint enterprise. The phones will have both the Sony name and the Sprint name on it, but no reference to Qualcomm. (I believe Primeco is using the Qualcomm name.) Sony is going to market the phones for Sprint, and Sprint has lined up many exclusive dealers, including Radio Shack, The May Co., Circuit City etc.It was a very upbeat conference call with much fanfare for CDMA, but little mention of Qualcomm.
