How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents - less than one-tenth of today's force. The operation is still highly praised... Its very clear to me that the nation's leaders are very ambivalent about shutting the border. I think we have become addicted to the cheap labor. When Eisenhower was president, I am sure the illegal traffic was a trickle. Illegals get we are divided about this issue and they are taking advantage of it. I am disgusted with the whole thing and have written my senators and congressman.
