paul:

some info to your questions.

scsi drives are faster than ide drives, although the fastest ide is catching up with speed. scsi offers the advantage of daisy chaining 8 devices on one controller card. scsi (and scsi-2, fast scsi) drives are found on some high-end workstations and just about all servers. as enterprise networks are increasing, and so are net servers, space is at a premium on most workstations and server (whatever kind). applications are getting larger, more graphics are used, more companies on the net, with larger sites. just look at the size of msfts site. for those who process files with a lot of read/write on the disk, greater speed makes a difference. i think demand will only increase. the larger and faster the drives the better. this does not take into consideration of the home market, as that market is really not knowledgable about computers. they only look at price. they will continue to use ide drives. or those that cannot afford a scsi, will purchase a really fast ide drive. i have noticed that a lot of users are purchasing second drives for their pc as they have run out of space in a relatively short time. and there is no need to purchase a new box. corporate and sophisticated users buy first. then technology filters down, as does price. that's the time new technology appears. and the cycle begins again.

hope this helps.
