The U.S. has pledged $16 billion, to expand the Afghan army from 100,000 to 240,000. This is far more troops than the Afghan government can afford to maintain, much less recruit, equip and train, in the first place. Such a large army will have to be paid for by foreigners indefinitely.

And guess who those "foreigners" are going to be?
Can you spell USA?

This is a point I have made repeatedly. Any and all Aghan centralized govt activity will have to paid for by "foreigners".

Unless Afghan politicians can convince the drug lords to pay taxes to Kabul.
Think - - Fat chance!!!

I can't wait until we donate a new firetruck and police car to every Afghan village. That will liven things up at least till they run out of gas and we suddenly realize there are no gas stations. That will be right after we learn the vehicles are too wide for donkey cart trails.

If our goal is to Americanize every politically-unincorporated, regional-habitat for humans, we have millions of miles to go before we sleep.

Forrest Gump had this all figured out long ago. Someone should resurrect the movie and rename it guidance for American national level politicians.
