"Are you trying to deny that among working class people eating out, and eating pre-prepared foods is more common are both more common than they where a couple of generations ago?"

Some prepared foods are cheaper than making fresh. I remember reading a study on obesity among the poor in West Texas during the early 1980s. A big factor was that their diet consisted mainly of canned biscuits and lard. It, by far, was the cheapest food they could buy. It also had a huge calorie load.

Things like fresh vegetables are out of reach for many inner city poor. The stores they have available simply don't stock them. Supermarkets typically don't exit in inner cities, and it likely is cheaper to eat at Mickey D's than trying to put together meals out of the stores that do exist there.
