even if sql*server comes close to what Microsoft is promising (BIG BIG BIG IF), its achilles heel is that it only runs on NT. None of Oracle, SAP or Baans Fortune 2000 customer base runs only on NT. Not even Microsoft runs entirely on NT (they got those AS/400's chuggin and rumour is that theres a HP Unix machine in the basement under non-disclosure, running a database that begins with an "O" - the IS guys probably wanted to go with Sun but you know the story there).

Oracle's cross platform capability plus improved NT OS integration will level the playing field.
