CALCUTTA 22 DECEMBER
US junk bond kings Mike Milken and Warren Trepp, his former chief trader at Drexel Burnham Lambert, are now eyeing India. The two, who between themselves are worth more than $21 billion, have joined hands with two Silicon Valley-based NRIs to invest in information technology start-ups in this part of the world.

"We have a $100m Friendly Capital fund which is ready to invest in I-T related projects here and we are scouting for proposals from techno-entrepreneurs," said Mr Dave Mukherjee who apart from owning a part of the limited liability fund is also advising Milken and Trepp on the fund's investments strategy in the region with his partner A. Sinha.

Mr Mukherjee said the fund's primary focus will be I-T, because "that is what we understand best". However, it is also open to other ideas.
