RWC, "superior" is a relative term. It is relative to the context in which it is applied. Is the Corvette superior to the Buick LaSabre? Well, it goes faster, it looks prettier, it costs more - well, dang, yup, it's superior. I would purchase, however, a Buick LaSabre for my family because (a) it costs less, (b) insurance costs are less, (c) it has more room and (d) it has a Coke cup holder. To say that the EZ and SyJet are "superior" to the Zip and Jaz is incorrect, as "superior" is a function of cost, use, popularity, durability, etc. If I want to take a bus load of children to the Zoo, I can't take them in my Corvette, I've got to rent a bus. The bus is ugly, slow, and hard to manage around curves, but it works for the purpose for which it was intended. The Zip was designed as a fast, durable, low cost mass market storage device to replace the 1.44. So far it is succeeding. The Jaz was intended for the same purpose with higher storage capacity. EZ and SyJet may have their place, but to call them "superior" is to imply that there are a fixed set of market variables by which we all judge the purchase of a storage product. No such fixed variables exist. Not only that, the variables keep changing.
I owned Syquest stock at $12 and (thankfully) sold at $15. I have nothing against Syquest as a company. But, another company has so far beat them to the punch they had the opportunity to create. |
